Social media can have its ups and downs. However, when creating a social media marketing campaign, social media can be a blessing because it will allow a company to reach its intended target audience, engage with current and future customers, create brand loyalty, and increase sales.
I recently developed a pitch to the New York Mets about how they can increase their engagement on social media and increase revenue. I could not go right into the project. The first thing I did was develop a strategy about how I wanted the pitch to look. When developing a social media strategy, you must first define your social media campaign goals. After defining your goals, you should identify the social media channels you will use and start planning your social media campaign strategies.
Being that I am a big Mets fan, I already had some knowledge about how their engagement levels were on social media. However, I did not know details about their engagement levels and how there is plenty of room for improvement. After doing some research, I found that while the Mets are one of the more active teams on social media, they do not see the levels of success they want to be at or should be at. Posting a lot on social media will not get you much engagement; the content you post on social media will affect your engagement levels. When coming up with this plan, I looked at the Mets social media posts from the previous week and saw how and if they were engaging with their fans. Once I did this, I came up with a big idea of utilizing social media to increase fan engagement and revenue for the team. I then came up with SMART Goals to help me achieve my big ideas. After coming up with my Smart Goals, I picked an influencer for the Mets to partner with, along with a proposed paid advertising campaign and a proposed budget for my plan.
When concluding my plan, I ended off by talking about why having a strategy is critical before starting something. In his book Social Media Strategy, Keith Quesenberry says, “A strategy is the high-level connection between an effort or function and organization requirements.”
